Calvin "Dapper Dan" Spann

Although born and raised in the Mid-way, and later making Detroit his home-land for 35 plus years. His story says… being in Detroit (My second home) taught him very valuable lessons, and gave him tools to carry fourth in his continuing journey that would lie ahead. \

Coming from a large family of fourteen brothers and sisters (him being the seventh child… the youngest of five males, three older sisters with six sisters under him) it was very clear to understand the meaning of having a strong loving family, with structure, good morals, discipline, and principals. All the basic ingredients one needs to live by. While landing in Detroit and getting away from the family structure, there were tendencies to lose a little edge from what had kept this fence around him. Understanding this (Coming from his back-ground) Calvin would later study the science of martial art… not only did he master the art and technique, but also mastered himself in developing (in his heart and mind) the total man with character. While obtaining several degrees in the Art of Tae Kwon Do (which span over 20 years of hard dedicated work), just to get back what he felt had shaped him, and more. He also attend church, knowing the need for spiritual food was imminent in his life, He worked at the Chrysler Corporation for 35 year, and has now retired. He also worked his way through college to earn a degree in business, all the while going through this swirl wind journey to build his character, only to bring him where he is now.

He has two beautiful children, and four lovely grand’s. After retiring in March of 2008, Calvin took a year off from everything to clear his mind, get some well needed rest, just to reflex, and to charge his battery for another run (as he would say “the start of another chapter”) in life. Although his new resident has taken him to Atlanta Georgia, however, he wants all of his friends and colleagues (in the dance communities) to understand that he didn’t leave you… he just left the State of Michigan. Calvin is the youngest Charter Member of the Big Hat Gentlemen, and still plays a significant role as a BHG member.

Since being in the ATL, he and his dance partner, his mate, his rock, the air that he breathe (the lovely and beautiful Rosetta) has brought their sexy smooth northern flavor to the dirty south (as they say), and the dance community has open their hearts, greeted and accepted them as one of their own. Calvin is now one of the Co Founders, Owner, President, and CEO of the R.E.A.D. program (Rapid Enhanced Active Development, Inc.) located in Stockbridge Georgia. Although the business keeps him very busy; however, he still finds time to do what he loves to do... dance… something he has always enjoyed!
